how internet work?
in today’s world, we can live without water and food for a day. but it is difficult to live without internet at least an hour. have you ever wonder who is in charge of the internet, how internet work, what happens when we search on the internet.
let’s find out
who is in charge of the internet?
the honest answer is nobody and maybe another answer is everybody.
but the real answer is that the internet is made of an incredibly large number of independently operated networks.
interesting part about the system is that it’s fully distributed there’s no central control that is deciding how packets are routed or where pieces of networked are built or even who interconnects with whom.
How does it work?
here the entire world is connected through the internet. most of us think it works through satellite, but actually 99% of internet work through optic fiber cable.
internet has to go through 3 tiers before reaching you. let’s discuss them one by one.
in tier 1, there are optic fiber cables which are connected all over the world through underground (under the ocean)
basically, internet is free. how?
let’s say you are at home and your office is 5 kilometers far from your home. if you can connect your home and office through underground cables. now you can call this as internet.
here your spending money only on the underground cable and for its maintenance.
just like this tier 1 companies have connected all the world through there underground cables
here all the counters are connected and now we need to connect between states, then to cities, then to your local area and finally to your home.
you can find tier 1 here.
tier 2 companies connect all the states in the country.
they get data from tier 1 companies and supply to tier 3
basically, they are the local data, providers.
they get the data from the tier 2 and supplies to us.
the data which c0mes to us is much higher in terms of cost compared to what tier 2 and tier 3 gets.
as I told you before the internet is free but the money we are paying is for maintenance, connectivity, and the infrastructure.
this is how internet work.
what happens when we search?
let’s take an example what happens if we search for a website?
if you use a window pc you will have a command called “tracert” open that.
if I search for google.com you can see 7 IP address.
this means that there are 7 connection points between my home to google server.
these connecting points are all divided into this 3 tiers
you can find IP address here.
